Back in the early 2000s, it seems like everyone who is anyone on YouTube in the metal community was on the Andy Sneap Forum, sharing information about recording, mixing, metal, and everything awesome. Glenn Fricker, Ola Englund, Keith Merrow, Josh Middleton...
And then there was me. I didn't have the wealth of experience recording my music, mixing it, or making it sound like it was anything other than the amateur trash it was. But I was reading everything I could there, interacting very little, just trying to learn more.
I still regret not interacting more on the forum, getting involved, asking questions. But there was one project I did interact with, it was a thread started by Matt Parsons, who was working on his first full-length album for his Alas, Tyranny project.
He was looking for a singer to do clean vocals for some of his songs, as he was mostly a death metal vocalist, and he had a female to do the female parts he'd written already.
I raised my hand, and asked to give it a go...and he sent me some files. He also sent guitar guides for the vocal notes and melodies he wanted, which was really helpful to follow along with the lyrics. There were some strange patterns in his songs I wasn't used to, and I definitely stuck with what was sent as religiously as I could. I wanted to do well.
I also did a bunch of harmonies, and built some small choirs (I AM a big Blind Guardian fan, after all). I sent him the tracks, and he was very happy with them, and mixed them into the songs.
That album was released in 2010, called Domination Liberation Purification. Go buy it, it's really good. Not because I'm on it, it's just a really cool, heavy album!
My first vocals appear on the song "The Awakening", and it's a cool song. Most of the vocals on the song are mine.
Big thanks to Matt for letting me be a part of this album, it's a really cool thing to listen to, with lots of great riffing, great death vocals, and very cool songs.
Songs with my vocals:
"The Awakening"
"Let the War Begin"
"The Chains of Remembrance"
"The Heart's Betrayal"
I'd love to do more vocals for this band, if he's doing more...but the last songs I see he's released were in 2015. Shame, very cool stuff!
